We have success! I’m so proud of her! I was getting worried that she hadn’t laid her egg and realized that although she had accepted the crate, she couldn’t stretch out and get comfortable in it. I replaced it with this under-bed box and voila!
She will likely lay 2 more a couple of days apart, then sit on each for 28 days. These are not fertilized and will not produce chicks, but her biological cycle will need to complete the incubation period to stop laying in this clutch.
Claire finds herself nesting in times of change. It’s her instinct to settle in and stabilize the situation. She had her first nest after the Thomas Fire & Montecito Mudslide, then two after we moved and now during this pandemic time.
